Vineyards
Not every Vineyard should employ Falconry, but it is the single best service to protect the fruit from pest birds. The Falconry protection should be started at about the time the first grapes get to 12-13 brix of sugar, and continues until harvest is substantially complete.
Cherry Farms
Every Cherry orchard of commercial size should employ Falconry to protect the fruit from pest birds. The Falconry protection should be started at about the time the fruit starts to show color, and continues until harvest is substantially complete.
Blueberries
Most Blueberry farming operations should employ Falconry to protect the fruit from pest birds. The Falconry protection should be started at about the time the fruit starts to be visible, and continues until harvest is substantially complete.
Pigeons
Pigeons may be removed by falconry or trapping or a combination thereof
Landfills
Falconry can be an excellent method for bird abatement at garbage dumps, but Kerster’s Falconry is not seeking any contracts of this type at this time.
Airfields
All Airports and Airfields of commercial size should employ Falconry to safeguard Aircraft from Bird Strikes. The falconry program should be continuous, and should be expanded during heavy avian migration times of year. Please E-mail karl@kerster.com or phone (916)832-0454 to arrange your contract.
How to become a falconer
Practically anyone who wants to can become a falconer. Don’t let anyone tell you that you can’t or shouldn’t do it! There are some dumb people and some cumbersome regulations that may sometimes get in the way of a person becoming a falconer, but please do not let that derail your desire to fulfill your own personal dreams! If you are having any trouble navigating the process of getting started in falconry you are welcome to send an E-mail to ask for guidance
